| Everyone knows what producer's heaven looks like: Drowning
in fabulous film projects, surrounded by people forcing their money on you.
However, most of us know where we really live....
In everyday life, as you try to capture a better position in the indie film food chain, there are but a few moments when that great come-what-may mood occurs. When I met Angela and she introduced me to her vision of a film about these incredible New York film buffs, it was such a moment. We began to set up a budget and found a commissioning editor, one who surprisingly enough was not a typical member of his species but rather an enthusiastic advocate of the idea. The co-director Stephen Kijak turned up on our radar screens, while German film funding bodies such as Filmboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Filmstiftung NRW opted in. Yet still it took us about two years just to have a modest budget in place. There's always a glimmer of hope. And if there's one last weird trump
of cineastic doom, I know it's Cinemania. |
